In the Truth of Poetry
by Michael Doyle
Life, it seems in as far as it is reachable
Is filled with those moments that are teachable
One of the most powerful of lessons to learn
Is the ability to quick study, determine and discern
A poem can be as firm as an honest handshake
If felt as deeply as truth that cannot shake
But instead fills us with the goodness of light
And the certainty of knowing wrong from right
Without this truth, there can be no sense of peace
Where images of the dark tango come to an increase
Virtual in the reality of all that we have seen
In this journey of all that it means in our being
Defining forces of integrity go into the writing
Evoking the tortured souls into something inciting
The resistance against all things that grown into tyranny
Things we have seen before and put fear into you and me
Cryptically fractured, the words form then disappear
Until at last we must choose between love and fear
Regardless, as it may be, and whatever the final cost
Poetry calls as if to home and I return from being lost
