Understanding Beyond Things Said

Snowdrops - First Tree
Understanding Beyond Things Said
by Michael Doyle

There it is in the subtle turn of your head
All things that go beyond what is said
It's there in the touch of your hand isn't it dear
Those moments when your love shines very clear

As we walk and talk about sights we've yet to see
All those many things we will grow into gradually
And it's there as you try to tell me without saying
That your love is real and that you're not playing

Yet, my startled look thanks to words you said
I can't seem to get wrapped in my head
You want the biggest tree for you and me
To be the one frocked for our Christmas tree

Looking up at the ceiling, it's clear to see
These dimensions are an impossibility
But if there's a way to make it happen, I will
Just for your smile and to see your thrill

You smile at me like I can make this all true
I wonder aloud at the belief inside of you
Not that I will not do all that I possibly can
Because your love makes me want to be that man

You laugh insisting this can be so easily done
After all, aren't I that type of special someone
To make your best dreams shape our reality
I'm completely undone by your faith in me

And so this is how our love goes as winter chills
I smile at your whispers and I love you echoed hills
And so this is how our first winter's wind chills
I will never let go at how wonderfully magic it all feels

If you're going to love, it is best to have a big love
The kind that makes the angels sing from high above
And as we approach hand in hand to this winter holiday
I smile and tell you that I wouldn't have it any other way
