Carnival of Ordinary Love
by Michael Doyle
I guess you could say
That I'm nothing extraordinary
That my life has been lived
Like a carnival of the ordinary
Always keeping my eye on the prize
That had yet to be won
A life lived with no alibis
Until I saw your face and was undone
Drawn to you as I was
Without power to resist
I had to be near you because
Of my compulsion that will ever persist
That I would be that anything
That you want and need
Giving my all and then something
Whatever it takes to be believed
Painting scenes of sanctity
In moments lived for themselves
Treasured as these are for being free
Instead of driven by papers from their shelves
It's these that chase our laughter
Making music to which we choose to dance
In this embrace we both get what we're after
With no regard for the consequences, only romance
