In the Church of the Open Field

Tuscan Clarity - Old Car In the Field
In the Church of the Open Field
by Michael Doyle

In the church of the open field
The glory of truth is revealed
In fellowship of God's good company
In the exclusive claims of divinity

Darkness hates the shine of light
Preferring as it does, the things of night
Yet we, the children, gather in prayer
Putting away the things of the vanity fair

The world sees us as a form of living dead
As it weighs heavy to be shunned instead
When all of the comforts of a lifetime
Are treated like some kind of a crime

Come gather now, in the face of persecution
Bringing living love as our soul's contribution
Walking bravely in the face of blinding fear
We offer up love and are steadfast as we persevere
