To Live Beyond the Grave

To Live Beyond the Grave
by Michael Doyle

There are things I think on
That I wish not to be gone
There are words I have said
That might help others ahead

it’s these things I would save
To extend these beyond the grave
In hope they might might mean something
Rather than adding up to nothing

There are smiles I might share
Words of hope and words of care
That might bring someone happiness
Or at least keep them from emptiness

There are tears that I have cried
Secrets yet that I feel need to confide
Dreams that I have dared in aspiration
That might yet lead to another’s inspiration

It is to this purpose that I choose to write
Having stepped into it with all of my might
That maybe yet there is something yet to say
And it will find itself on paper, but not today
