A Perspective of Identity

A MidSummer's Day Dream -Ruined Tower At Night
A Perspective of Identity
by Michael Doyle

Identity
Multi-faceted
Yet abstract
Integral
Stated with trust
Crucial
To communication
Essential
To humanity's explanation

Pervasive
In every social interaction
An accelerated
Mix of culture in transition
Discussed amongst us all
Like Babel's great fall
A conception in definition
Developed in competency
Or lost in the incendiary

Social category
Personal and unique
Often times
Spoken in allegory
Descriptive in technique
Sometimes inclusive
Yet, still elusive
Even in the reflective view
Of what comprises me and you

Who am I?
It's a matter of perception
Let's not be shy
Or caught up in self-deception
I thing we are getting warm
Speaking of heritage and social norm
It's become a social construction
At least when it's not left in destruction
There is emotional significance in our identities
