Gotta Get the Truth Out

Juneteenth Celebration - Eiteljorg Museum - Proclaiming the Truth
Gotta Get the Truth Out
by Michael Doyle

Both sides are right
Both sides are wrong
In the dead of the night
Where do I belong?

The words that are said
When none should speak
Roll around in my head
As I look down from this peak

There's a lot to this world
That I'll never really know
It makes me want to hide burrowed
Until the truth can show

Written in the lines on my hand
Is the story that has not been told
I wish I could find the peace to understand
But instead, I await each day to unfold

Gotta get the truth out
To the storied masses
Who are also filled with doubt
As our world burns to ashes

Handling it all despite its persistence
With the world around going to Hell
It's past the point of stubborn resistance
Yet, who will remain to tell this tale?

About doing what we had to do
With courage in our hearts and faltered steps
Let the last standing here get the message through
In the spirit of hope when that's all that is left
