Even the Mother of God

White Cliffs of Dover - Mother Mary
Even the Mother of God
by Michael Doyle

Even the mother of God was human
Taking her steps best that she can
When she became chosen with care
This world's savior to carry and bear

Gabriel appeared in dead of the night
Telling her the truth and bringing light
As a virgin she kept in her purity
In her favored status, this was her surety

No word from God will ever fail
Her world turned upside down, yet would prevail
A simple mortal given honored grace
Her duty was clear and meant to embrace

In her rare opportunity was also some shame
Though she was blameless, she would bear the blame
Where there should no cause for this blame
On which the could reasonably place this shame

Obeying God, surrendering with full intention
Was Mary's own intention on which she placed attention
All that love, given in a Word that God did say
Determined in obedience, there was no other way
