A Photographic Means
(Dedicated to Berenice Abbott)
To widen our knowledge
Of a world seen through camera's eye
It's truly something to acknowledge
An acquaintance of truth that will not die
Though it does sometimes fadeaway
In the meantime, it teaches us of today
There's an education in every photographic print
If one looks hard enough and with a squint
With the inner dialog's indication
Found in the visual art's facilitation
It was clearly a tale of transformation
Honest, contingent, and objective in communication
Photos offer a proper appeal in their summation
About particular times and places, and their information
Physics made somehow visually comprehensible
And are as meant to be quite unforgettable
There was a genuine aesthetic in her composition
An isolated neutrality available through interpretation
That emphasizes the need for true artistic expression
Without offering the least hint of her concessions
