Fold
by Michael Doyle
The gambler's cards folded
As variables at last decoded
In this digital age, it's the human mind
That must last be decoded or left behind
In mankind's bid at immortality
Despite the babbled towers of immorality
In the worst of infernal quests
To put living forever to the test
Free will, it may seem a mistake
Some hold to this as illusions break
Too much freedom knows its misery
Disguised as it is as total liberty
The pleasure of this story
Isn't to be revealed in all its glory
But in discerning its end
To this truth we might lend
As heir of this transcendence
A lesson earned that might lend its
Virtuosity in having been told
In days of yore when we were once not as old
This is the way of all true promises made
From which we should not be afraid
Look deeply into life's narrow eyes
Learn what is there to recognize
In our suffering, we are set free
It is said with a twinkle of immortality
Is it worth taking the time to help surmise
What lacks the will to survive?
