A Morning’s Meditation

Shangdu - Meditation On An Eternal Flame

A Morning’s Meditation
by Michael Doyle

As in the beginning it is now
As it will ever be yet somehow
Though dead in sense from sin
If Christ is in us, we are born again

Through the spirit living in each
We are risen again as we teach
Blessed then in our redemption
Worthy as such in our contemplation

In a sacred sign of our salvation
We become one in some explanation
The prophets give in passing ages
Along with the wisdom of the sages

Abraham’s oath lives on without fear
But in hope that we may persevere
We stand firm in our upright holiness
Through the bottomless mercy of bliss

Taken from darkness into the light
We live as instruments of what is right
Bringing hope even from despair
And covering hate with love everywhere

As consolers from this world’s grief
We love with compassion and relief
For it is in giving that we receive
As we walk in the light and do not deceive

We meet all in our path at point of need
Doing our best as the scriptures read
Starting the day in prayer and meditation
Is the way of the Lord in its contemplation
