We Pretend To Have Forgot

The Lost Gardens of Pompeii - Winged Angel
We Pretend To Have Forgot
by Michael Doyle

I don't like things
That are too touchy and feely
The reason why
Is these might reveal me

With the turn of the page
It's less in what we say
But the how that we rage
As night fights against day

These things have less meaning
Than in pretending what is real
As life moves beyond puzzles
That serve to seal the deal

We make the promises
That we know that we won't keep
And still we wonder
Why the willows weep

Until we no longer care
Forged by all the times we should not have
We are given flowers in our grief
And pluck the petals pretending to have forgot
