In Our Pain

Bunyi 2022 - Gold Dust
In Our Pain
by Michael Doyle

In that moment
I saw beyond myself
Through my tears
To someone else

I had walked
Beyond the shadow of death
As the spirits talked
Whispering under breath

Always so selfish
And filled with needs
For things never mine
To find myself freed

Into life's storm
Turned with a toss
Those who love moments
Ask the price of love

A single tear
Falls from my eye
For each passing year
Of telling life goodbye

Is our pain
Our deliverance?
What can be said
In true recompense?

We are all bound
Together by our pain
Of promises made and found
Unkept and unexplained

Those who are living
And those who are damned
All need forgiving
For things happened and never meant

In our symbols
We seek and see
That inside us all
Is the forbidden key

Each of us
Has seen this before
In that moment of life
As we enter death's door
