Finding A Seat At the Table

Finding a seat at the table
Such as it is and the best we're able
Begins with a story of circumstance
In which every effort acts to enhance

The dreams that come in planting trees
The roots of which are in what we please
To achieve, overcome, and inspire
And in so doing, set the world on fire

Believing in the power of change
As butterfly wings spread to rearrange
The entire world within a water drop
That brings its journey that cannot stop

Every woman and every man
Can bring a better life  as all can
Every step is life that is taken
Should be taken with courage that cannot be shaken

This is the path that we must walk
Summoning the words needed as we talk
About channeling the joy needed
By two sides of the coin that we've pleaded

Planting the seeds under which we'll never sit
Passing on lessons never meant to forget
It's never in our nature to be fully satisfied
But when it's over, never let it be said that we never tried
