Lisa (How To Love A New England Girl)

Missing Melody - Cause We Were A-Swinging
Lisa (How To Love A New England Girl)
by Michael Doyle

She was born a New England girl
With dreams of her own and the leaves in a whirl
Every fall, she knew comfort in her season
And he knew that she made sense beyond reason

Granite swimming holes and cotton candy
Somehow in love with the music of W.C. Handy
She sang songs that touched the heart
And he knew her love of music had him from the start

A Longfellow serenade, such were the plans made
Hayrides and conversations held in the shade
With lips like hers, how could he ever really miss
Especially with dreams of her so hard to resist

Dunkin Donuts coffees sipped nearly every morning
Red hair worn long as his final unheeded warning
She sensually said Lisa was her beautiful name
And if he fell in love, maybe God was to blame

There at the wall up on the shores of North Beach
She hung out with her posse right in her reach
It was the best place in the world to ever call home
And with a love like that, you know you're never alone

Sticking out like a sore thumb with a splinter
She promised to keep him warm and snuggled every winter
The roads were iced and sometimes wicked slippery
With coffee ice cold and the woods white and wintery

There the tourists from Boston go to North Conway
To see the fall foliage on a Settler's Green day
It's hard to imagine not living near a beach
With the summer's moon and her heart within reach

Dunkin Donuts coffees sipped nearly every morning
Red hair worn long as if his final unneeded warning
She whispered saying Lisa was her beautiful name
And if he fell in love, maybe she might soon feel the same

A kaleidoscope of flowers decorate Story Land
When she wasn't digging her toes in the sand
Waking up for the sunrise has its special worth
It's nearly as pretty as the lights from the north

The world needed is only a two hour drive
And every drive driven make you glad to be alive
The world is an oyster of this incredible place
When you have a love like hers to embrace

He was just another overgrown surfer boy
But smart enough to know her ways and enjoy
Every moment spent in walking hand-in-hand
What more really is there to understand?

Dunkin Donuts coffees sipped nearly every morning
Red hair worn long as if he really wanted a warning
She sensually said Lisa is her beautiful name
And if they fell in love, God would gladly take the blame
