Love Was There

Moonlit River - Yet Another Path to Wander
Love Was There
by Michael Doyle

Along the country roads of my youth
I learned a few jokes and a lot of truth
Singing along with the radio show
A lot joy there and it continues to flow

So many smiles built on memory
Times spent with my family
Nothing would bring this crashing down
My childhood wore victory's crown

Despite the many distractions
Stopping at every roadside attraction
There were a million songs to sing
And love was there in everything

This is what I would wish to give
While it is that I still manage to live
To my daughters who I love more than I can say
And it is for this that I quietly pray

That every moment yet lived as a choice
That mine will be the loving, kind voice
That patiently helps them learn their way
And for which I fight every moment to stay

Doing my best to fill their days with joy
And when I am tired I try hard to be coy
Switching to yet another dad joke to push through
Because that's just the kind of thing a dad will do

Sharing with them love of music and of art
Watching happily as they learn to follow their hearts
Hoping that when they grow up, love will be there
As they look back on memories and need good cheer
