Oblique Stare

So This Happened - They Said Drinking Would Be the Death of Him...
Oblique Stare
by Michael Doyle

I looked up in an oblique stare
Upward into that cold ceiling
Fighting with God in my prayer
Hoping that my wish would be prevailing

Two daughters stood near by my side
I was not ready to leave behind
And to my Lord, I did confide
That I needed His mercy to find

Dear Lord, can you please hear me
You know that I love, respect, and adore thee
Please do not let me die or let me cry
I must be brave and live for them so close by

Take my life another day if you would
I don't mean to question and it's understood
That my life is yours for which I live
The girls don't deserve this, so, please your mercy give

Over a year later, I wait to hear about my medication
Keeping that day and them close in daily meditation
Thankful for this time that I have been given
And for my God, by whom I have been forgiven
