Blind Side
by Michael Doyle
Four seconds from the snap of the ball
A life can change in ways we'll later recall
In four seconds, a life can really change
As the players on the field rearrange
But such players come along for the ride
With nowhere else to go and with no pride
Passed along like some unwanted stray
The kid needed a break given him that day
When you've given up hope with nowhere to go
All that's left is a steady gaze and a ball to throw
White walls are often thrown into proverbial place
Holding back the dreams we're too afraid to chase
The tough breaks are the only ones that seem to come
When you're quiet, big, and thought of as dumb
Everyone has their way to come to learn
It's up to the rest of us to see this and discern
Looking deep into horizons with distant eyes
It isn't so hard if only we try to recognize
The truth barely viewable within the web of lies
Of twisted ways gotten between exasperated sights
Welcomed by strangers even into their home
The wounded warrior is no longer left alone
But begins with the hope that waits until morning
That we might yet come with the light without warning
It's there in the light that is the glimmer kept in sight
To the dreams that come to make everything all right
A Thanksgiving that is completed in a dessert of grace
When those who choose to love look into God's good face
