On the Pathway

St. Brendan the Navigator - Don't Betray Me (Stations of the Cross)
On the Pathway
by Michael Doyle

On the pathway of my recovery
There was the load of self-discovery
Finding out who I was and had left
Was, at times, my positive half-step

The mistakes made, I had to learn
The stripes I have, I had to earn
Every scar has me reaching for stars
Stripped down to my dreams of going far

There are so many tears behind my smile
Though complaining was never my style
I'm going to raise it up with bottled cheer
Pressing on into the best of each new year

You know that there is plenty left to be said
About the crazy things going on inside my head
But it's probably best to leave it as it's done
Until I'm sitting with victory at last won

Let's hear it for the ones who keep on trying
Who don't sit down in their defeat, lost in crying
Always on the get back up and dusting off another try
It's that or stay down, and knowing ourselves as reason why
