Played On and On

Golden Place - Song of Lonely Balladeer

Played On and On
by Michael Doyle

I always wondered
What tomorrow would bring
As I charged ahead
Doing my best at everything

And though I’ve made big mistakes
I did my best at everything
Fingers bled into these heartaches
Listening to the others sing

Please don’t forget me
Long after I am gone
And don’t you regret me
Just play on and on

We thought we’d live forever
As we played into the night
Doing our best at every endeavor
Hoping one time just to get it right

There hidden in the shadows
I played with a smile on my face
Wiping away every rock that rolls
Painted in your lipstick trace

Please don’t forget me
Long after I’m gone
And don’t you regret me
With the first light of dawn

Remember the years gone by
And all those times we’d try
There’s no need for goodbye
When there are no more tears to cry

All those arguments, so contrary
Even long after I’m gone
Rock your roll so extraordinary
And let the memories play on and on
