Universal Testimony

Home, Sweet, Home - Time To Write A Poem
Universal Testimony
by Michael Doyle

Let the record reflect without acrimony
That words left on page leave universal testimony
To the lives lived with delicate deliberation
Causally shifting from generation to generation

Daunting as seen through a faded literary lens
The words set on paper allow the soul to cleanse
Wishing at it were that writing is a democratic art
It's one professed dearly and clearly from the heart

Lives once past preserved in letters of naked courage
Sent on an ancestral altar nearly always to encourage
Words of love and hope are set sail hoping to find
A way to catch flame and give sight to forlorn and blind

Writing at a swift pace build's a soul's confidence
To dream bigger dreams held tight with reverence
Moments in time released as if they might yet speak
To all the curious hearts playing at hide and seek

Words are shared as if carelessly planted new seeds
To might yet encourage still others to noble deeds
Those who wish to be writers, it might be said
Must first learn to release words stuck in their heads
