Screaming the Dream
by Michael Doyle
Who would have believed
Were my eyes deceived
Could this really be
Within any possibility
Screaming the dream
Who would have believed
The nutritional value of ice cream
Factually known, not deceived
Now isn't this something nice
A glycemic index less than brown rice
Maybe better than striking it wealthy
It turns out ice cream is healthy
Who would have believed
Were my eyes deceived
Could this really be
Within any possibility
Inside my hunger is burning
While the ice cream is churning
And by God's grace, I'm willing
To taste that the treat that's chilling
Laced with minerals, a source of energy
And I'll skip past what's bad for me
It seems a modest urge to indulge
As long as you don't make your tummy bulge
Who would have believed
Were my eyes deceived
Could this really be
Within any possibility
Like all things needing moderation
It's to be enjoyed with accommodation
Reasonably reported with good conscience
The stigma against might be cultural bias
Not to be taken as an insult
But findings land on minds set on result
Scientific inquiry is a messy process
Over which one must never obsess
Who would have believed
Were my eyes deceived
Could this really be
Within any real possibility
That a half cup of ice cream is good
As scientists have to finally understood
But ask any child and they surely know
The goodness of ice cream is easy to show
