As If From Nowhere
by Michael Doyle
Horrific images arise as if from nowhere
The sort of created crucifixion of unspoken fear
Hounded by the talons of the furies
That creep up very slowly and kill with a hurry
Bringing back the Temple of Apollo, At Delphi
Home to these avengers of shattered lullabies
A child's murder of parents must be avenged
Every such wrong doing will be rearranged
To create is a rebellion against all of creation
It seeks its torments in wounded imaginations
Branded and banished, unwanted and so sublime
Doing the undoable as if love is its own crime
Athena sprung forth from Zesus' open head
It's a thing of beauty filled with open dread
Monsters are released and spring from the divine
As if spun into tales that the poet refines
Synchronicities become their own fabled importance
As would be gods are lost in their impotence
Moments of triumph know their own free agency
Shrieked in incoherence as if a dissonant symphony
A monster's head bursts out from the chest
In an iconic moment that passes as if a test
Horror is tactile, uniting body and mind
Gobsmacking moments taken for granted as we find
Nostoro and Narcissus concert as if to conspire
When humanity extends into space to build its empire
A heart of darkness is revealed in exploitation
As mankind falls with our doubts that need explanation
Circumstances arise to create a wicked witches' brew
Thoughts of abandonment played out in plain view
A pervasive lack of reason strikes with fatality
With serial killer intensity, evil destroys man's morality
