Errors of Aaron

Errors of Aaron
by Michael Doyle

Life's vision, filled with flaws.
If only we might follow all of God's laws.
All of us are made in God's true image.
We know this from the Bible's first page.

We are God's masterpiece of intention.
All we need is to pay our full attention.
God has filled us with His purpose,
That we might be of holy service.

Each of us was woven in the womb,
Precious as our savior escaping the tomb.
We are born to live our full meaning,
Uniquely us, each of us, our own human being.

Aaron had one such life we watched unfold.
In the Old Testament, Aaron's story is told.
He helped God's people into the Promised Land
Though at times, he broke God's commands.

Brother of Moses, he helped lead the flock.
Bold of word, he was as steady as a rock.
These were the moments God saw the good in him,
His gift was leadership, so he naturally led them.

God's gifts vary, but are in each of us.
We need to recognize these because
Each gift is to be shared in the community.
This is how we live our part in God's family.

True leadership identifies and meets the need.
We do our best when our ego is truly freed.
To be effective, we must seek to be of service.
Living this posture becomes our living purpose.

God is the God who freed the Hebrews from slavery,
And informed them there would be no idolatry.
No god or demon would be held before our Lord,
And His cultivation would be as sharp as His sword.

Aaron knew what was right in his heart,
But at the first pressure, he chose to depart.
It is as if we do evil despite wanting to do good.
This part of human nature is humbly misunderstood.

Knowing these inner desires becomes the test.
Our holding onto sin doesn't stop God from loving us best.
The defining moments of sin lead us to redemption.
Let's please keep this in our constant contemplation.

We think that by our sins we are defined,
But God's plan is that we are merely refined.
Despite all the wrongs that we have done,
Our confessions become sanctified by the Son.
