With a bit of patient contemplation The Lord moved on to His third petition. It was for the end of our temptation, And deliver from evil, his holy nation.
The temptation is the passing of the test That through connection to Heaven brings rest. The fruit of the tree of good and evil was eaten Without which Satan would have been beaten.
Sin and death were linked with a single bite. This was the test that mankind didn't get right. It came down to a relationship of trusted love. The serpent caused a breach with Heaven above.
Satan held that God was only holding out, The apple would bring wisdom to clarify doubt. The single bite unleashed suffering and death Quicker than humanity could catch its breath.
It comes down to the spiritual battle at play. The Serpent twists and distorts each shaping day. Jesus understands the power of this heartbreak A wilderness test did not cause His soul to shake.
