Crimes Against Peace

Heading into court for the first round,
There were issues with no precedent found.
The war to end all wars would continue
Using words as weapons and points of view.

Formality and contempt were on display,
Which would be wiser was hard to say.
Crimes against peace held heavy responsibility.
Their adjudication must be handled capably. 

World War II left the world in a state of agitation.
The worst crime committed was that of aggression.
The accumulated evil of the whole disturbed the tranquility,
And with it went the world's constrained civility.

Civilization could not afford to ever again compromise
With the cruel violence, and so the world must realize
All wars, however local, become world wars to dread,
And make our world, a place even angels fear to tread.

A just world comes about only when all answer to the law.
The end of tyranny comes when its shadow cannot ever fall
In such a way as to darkly conceal truth from us all.
Guilty or not guilty, we must each answer this call.
