Megiddo Mosaic

Megiddo Mosaic
by Michael Doyle

Twists and turns bind philosophy
As we try to peek back in history,
Seeking the roots of humanity
With so much of it, bits of vanity.

The remaining bones of archeology
Must fall in place with chronology.
All of this is a puzzling connection,
As we take our clues in a hopeful direction.

From time to time, we shake ourselves.
We find something that rattles the shelves.
A new answer leads to a new discovery
Then all of a sudden, we've changed history.

Everywhere a body steps in Israel is history.
Whispered stories of faith change archeology.
What seems to be scattered, routine excavations
Becomes something found exceeding expectations.

In Megiddo prison, certain mosaic inscriptions
Led to some transformative transcriptions.
There in Armageddon is evidence of worship
Of Jesus Christ, in His full kingship.

This church dates back to the third century
100 years before the beliefs of archeology.
Rome can no longer claim precedence of worship,
When the evidence shows a much earlier relationship.

False claims relinquished should be set aside,
There is no worse claim than that based on pride.
Here then is where faith and truth openly collide,
And the outcome of this must be taken in stride.
