The God of You and Me

The God of You and Me
by Michael Doyle

We are joined here in voice
We are gathered here by choice
Called together in His name
Called together by the one without blame

We call out in the Holy Spirit
With a mighty desire to hear it
All the things needed to be said
It fills our hearts as if spiritually fed

By the manna of Heaven pouring down
Through Him, we wear victory's crown
Reminded by He who is in control
We find sweet joy in our souls

Oh God, my God, hear our sound
As we rejoice in what we've found
Oh God, my God, we cry in echo
Showing and sharing God's love as we know

He is the cause of today as tomorrow
The fulfillment of every joy and sorrow
Bringing us our blessed eternity
Our God, oh God, is the God of me and you

“I am an historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.” – H.G. Wells, Author, Historian, and Atheist

In An Act of Hope

In An Act of Hope
by Michael Doyle

In an act of hope, we turn to poetry
To capture life's acts in some capacity
It expands beyond what any language can do
To extend and share my heart's point of view

We live in a world that is flat and distracted
Where so much said should be quietly retracted
Eloquence has been replaced by memes and cliche
May it's that so few have value in what they say

We seem to be stuck in a world of rinse and repeat
And a 24-hour news cycle with its emptiness replete
Seems to consist of bad sentences strung together
As if the human race has given up on being better

Intimate thoughts and emotions offer complexity
But it's best put in terms of sweet simplicity
Words are meant to draw out every sense of meaning
Revealing the best of every part of humans being

We must carefully avoid words, smooth and empty
And look instead for fulfilment, given completely
Poetry is meant to be declarations of hope spoken
Out into a world that otherwise remains broken

It's the try that leads to things of magnificence
As we struggle to find some path of significance
We stare into the face of the wordless hollow
Of life that has its pressures that we swallow

We know, of course, our words cannot say or recall
Those things that we cherish most, but of this all
We know that we must try to say what we must say
And our hearts and words will somehow find their way

With An Idea In View

With An Idea In View
by Michael Doyle

With an idea in view
I wished for a dream come true
And hope replaced my heartache
That came from my last mistake

Trying my best to figure it out
Taking my best shot at what it's about
Finding it hard under an August moon
That brings kisses like roses in bloom

There it is, an idea in view
It came to me with one look at you
Watching you there as you dance and sway
There's something in the rhythm that the band plays

You looked sweetly like shades of graceful
As we shared kisses so tasteful
It's time to brave the nightfall
As I hear the music quietly call

It's as simple as your tease
And unforgettable as you please
A sonata couldn't feel more right
Here with you under the moonlight

There it is, an idea in view
It came to me with one look at you
Watching you there as you dance and sway
There's something in the rhythm that the band plays

It's hard not to be a fan
But I'd rather be your man
There you are, dancing on the street
That one in a million I've wanted to meet

I have a passion for your art
As time grabs me by my heart
My fallen guard might make you my queen
With an idea in view, if you know what I mean

There it is, an idea in view
It came to me with one look at you
Watching you there as you dance and sway
There's something in the rhythm that the band plays

You've pulled my life up from moping
And girl, now you've got me hoping
Here under the magic of the moonshine
That you'll fall for me and be mine

You're the girl, I couldn't miss
The only one I want to kiss
Maybe I talk too much like I often do
But I speak my words with an idea in view

There it is, an idea in view
It came to me with one look at you
Watching you there as you dance and sway
There's something in the rhythm that the band plays
