In A Declaration of War

In A Declaration of War
by Michael Doyle

Titans are unleashed in a vision
Dreamed without the requisite precision
To dare to say what it really means
This then is the way of such types of dreams

King Hyperion seeks to rule over mankind
But as with all tyrants, he is blind
This is why oracles pray for the lost
For they alone can foresee the costs

Of a war fought in the heavens of immortality
But such are the ways of those who find fatality
Acceptable in time's waves of ebb and flow
Where angels fear to tread, in the times gods know

That the eons of hellish separation
Will reemerge in the strength of its desperation
War is the way of those no longer able to be kind
Whose eyes have seen too much and are now blind

The Sibylline Monastery falls to easy conquest
When the virgin oracle no longer passes the test
Pleas for mercy are greeted with degrees of violence
And the gods no longer offer their benevolence

Salvation is wished for in this heap of madness
That cannot end in anything but chaos and sadness
Still, the savage Titans call the gods out by name
While viciously setting the priests to unholy flame

The aim being the reign of gods must come to end
And the depths of Hades shall rise to contend
That such folly is no longer, if ever, needed
And the demands of the gods are no longer to be heeded

Thought For the Day: We Are Social Creatures In the Inmost Centre of Our Being. The Notion That One Can Begin…From Scratch…Could Not…Be More Wrong

“We are social creatures to the inmost centre of our being. The notion that one can begin anything at all from scratch, free from the past, or unindebted to others, could not conceivably be more wrong.” -Karl Popper, philosopher and professor (28 Jul 1902-1994)

In the Names of God

In His Name - Mount St Bruno Cathedral - Fontedi Quatraque
In the Names of God
by Michael Doyle

Giving thanks for the past week
Thinking back even as I begin to speak
Studying the value of God's holy names
Assured in differences that are yet the same

In being our savior in every moment
In all of our joy and seasons of torment
When even prison shines like a prism
And Paul's letters bring unity not schism

There's something to all of God's names
We remember the chains of childlike games
That when we call out God for all His Good
These are the options best understood

Yet it is best to remember not to be inane
The Lord's name should never be taken in vain
For he is like a fortress strong in tower
And present in our every day and passing hour

The holy names of God enumerate each quality
In cognate equivalents featuring His deity
Each personifying the I Am who will always be
With each name a matter of shades of theology

Prabhu is the prince of deepness and dominion
Enlightened in all corners of world opinion
Where the world is circular in its reason
And shapes and shades its way through seasons

The pronunciation must be guarded with care
For the Elohim proclaims what some won't dare
That the Godhood is one and yet a holy trinity
From the wilderness, El Shaddai came with dignity

Bringing the twins of construction and destruction
Into the realm of our holiest books of instruction
This transcends from the pages of a holy story
To the God we know and worship in all of His glory

For His is the beginning and the end of the Light
And His is the power to break the day from the night
Abba the Father speaks through flame and in the sky
As we worship the holiest of holies without asking why

It is in these moments that we have come to be stilled
That the truest of God's names is to us the revealed
It is the truth that bares our souls in its incarnation
That we His worshippers breath in our inspiration

X Marks the Spot

Hannington Endowment for the Arts -Criss Cross Stitches
X Marks the Spot
by Michael Doyle

So now, here it is, and seems
That in a community of dreams
X has come to mark the spot
Where the globe connects the dots

Of conversations that we field
Where no one really yields
But mingles outbursts of conversation
That bring fascination and aggravation

In an ongoing passion of clashing views
Where everyone lashes, and few pay the dues
Of knowing the instant of everyone's minds
Yet we're never quite sure what we will find

This world is one that nurtures commodity
Based on its roots and steeped in symbology
These are often chosen with a wolfish grin
As though a reminder of pride's original sin

It's a world of the maximally curious
In which every decision is made as if furious
Reinforced within the human definition of learning
In which the smallest detail is in the churning

Stomach acid that drenches corporation decisions
Because the smallest detail can bring derision
What is happening is a deeply sensed rebranding
That seems chaotic to those seeking understanding

To be part of what is happening and go beyond
Into a metaverse universe of grandmaster Elon
A closed bit of clatter in an artificial wall
Becomes the WeChat of community recalled

Throughout the world and filled with opportunity
For all to gather in the virtual realm of economy
Started by the same mind of Paypal's credibility
And it becomes dependent on everyone's ability

To see beyond the memes into the world of dreams
Wherever thing fits a bit better within the seams
It rests beyond a bridge past the cognitive dissonance
And into something that betters the resistance

Whisper has it that in its unlimited interactivity
There are signs pointing forward into creativity
That once unleashed, is more than vaporware's connection
And is the beginning of near-universal imagination

Joined together, this X becomes a global town square
In which the internet is remade with opportunistic flair
It is an unfinished business that thrives on inspiration
To drive past the point of success, leaving behind desperation

X is the symbol that invites all takers to rejuvenation
From a cycle of life and death and thriving on imagination
These are the memories that we cannot find a way to let go
In all the pleasures of giddiness which we already claim to know

The future of X reeks of a compelling sense of ambiguity
Into boundary-crushing extremes edging on perpetuity
X is the certain cool that defies all rules of authority
Daring to dream itself past the ledges into the legendary

Thought of the Day: It Used To Be the Boast of Free Men That, So Long As They Kept Within the Bounds of the Known Law, There Was No Need To Ask Anybody’s Permission Or To Obey Anybody’s Orders

“It used to be the boast of free men that, so long as they kept within the bounds of the known law, there was no need to ask anybody’s permission or to obey anybody’s orders. It is doubtful whether any of us can make this claim today.” – Friedrich August von Hayek (1899-1992)
