Thought For the Day: When Two Opposite Points of View Are Expressed With Equal Intensity, the Truth Does Not Necessarily Lie Exactly Halfway Between Them

“When two opposite points of view are expressed with equal intensity, the truth does not necessarily lie exactly halfway between them. It is possible for one side to be simply wrong.” – Richard Dawkins, biologist and author (b. 26 Mar 1941)

Though I absolutely disagree with Dawkins’ opinionated point of view for which this quote was opined, I do agree that though blinded to the facts of this matter, he is right on saying that two equally held opinions do not always have a halfway point. Sometimes a point of view is simply incorrect. In this case after reading and listening to several of Dawkins’ books, I believe him to be correct on some scientific points while absolutely incorrect in his atheistic opinions. Many of his arguments actually work quite deeply against his own thoughts on the matter. It is an amusing contradiction and evidences the fallible nature of humanity.

Born In the Rockies (Part III)

Highland Retreat 2023 - A Goat Moment
Born In the Rockies (Part III)
by Michael Doyle

As much as childhood is sweet, it wouldn't be clever
To ever believe these days will last forever
The ending of one relationship spells the start of the new
This is how the grasslands play out for the many and the few

Mother Bisons find their loves at first sight
As they birth their calves into the morning's light
A new singular focus to question and to protect
That is given purpose as hormones surge and detect

Yellowstone Valley awakes from winter's grip
Slowly escaping the cold from which it slips
Snowmelt births tread out of stumbled ground
And the will to survive must find its way to abound

80 million years ago this land reshaped as mountains grew
Forming a massive wall and creating changes anew
Cyclones rip across the prairies creating a biosphere
From the funnels and flows felt within the atmosphere

On these Rocky Mountains, the nannies and their kids
Pick their ways across the snow and keeping hid
A vertical world offers a master class of deference
If the mountain goat babies can survive the experience

A hop, skip, and jump brings the goats to mountain top
Learning to be sure-footed and when to start and stop
Looking for the verdant shoots from alpine meadow
As the weather decides for all just how this will go

Calm and with a good mother's way of reassurance
The mother mountain goat steadfastly offers her insurance
Until at last the storm passes and the clouds drift by
Here in the serenity of a Rocky Mountain's sigh

Thought For the Day: Too Often We Underestimate the Power of…the Smallest Act of Caring…To Turn A Life Around

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” – Leo Buscaglia, author, speaker and professor (31 Mar 1924-1998)

Born In the Rockies (Part II)

The Isle of Cezanne -Cranes In the Shadow of A Splash
Born In the Rockies (Part II)
by Michael Doyle

The backbone of North America stretches for miles
Bring life across the land with ceaseless smiles
From shifting sand dunes to deep river valleys it goes
From the most brilliant stretches of sun to deep shadows

Each biome provides respite for each new beginning
That comes with spring from winter, life is winning
It welcomes the spawn of the next generation from the mist
As new life gathers round into the old life's midst

There in Yellowstone Valley, the cranes begin to dance
It's a renewal of vows in a lifelong loving romance
These ways of love have their own special ritual
That leads to the waiting that has become habitual

Yellowstone is the largest temperate ecosystem on earth
Filled with rainbows of life, grasses, nature's mirth
Spring brings a baby cub's first steps from the den
As a mother looks on at life's beginning yet again

It's a time for these animal babies to explore and play
As they make their way into the the freshness of the day
Play is an essential part of every life's childhood
In this tale as old as time, as it is best understood

With Just One Word

Path to Oneself Reflection - Words Lost From Never Being Spoken
With Just One Word
by Michael Doyle

With just one word
You bring me through
The darkness around me
No matter how strong it surrounds me

There's nothing left to prove
With the mountains that you move
In your inevitability
I see my every possibility

With just one touch
I touch the edge of Heaven
I have a hunch
There's nothing I can't do

In the songs that I sing
In all the truth that you bring
You are the rock I stand on
Resting my all, my fear is gone

I have peace whatever the circumstance
With no reason to have fear
I have the courage to take every chance
Because my Lord's strength helps me persevere
