The Christmas That Was Tragic
by Michael Doyle
This Sunday, Christmas, is a bit tragic
When we’ve stopped believing in magic
We call it adulting but it’s really not
It’s just the goodness we’ve simply forgot
Take a deep breath, and try to believe
In all those things once simple to conceive
All the children in the world believe this night
Walking from reasons to despair into the light
Once a year, there is the annual passing of cheer
Meant to last a lifetime and never disappear
Pointy-eared elves never lie, you’re thinking of gnomes
And the joy in this world is to be dreamt into homes
In this PC world, Merry Christmas seems problematic
And the naughtiness meter has become ever tragic
Some cynics are doubting if Santa’s really still got it
He does, you just believe enough for those who’ve forgot it
