None of This Matters

Skye Neist Point 2021 - Wandering Alone Deep In Thought
None of This Matters
by Michael Doyle

None of this matters
Because none of this is real
Cloaked in our tatters
It's just another day in Hell

God's given insight
Into the battles we must fight
Scattered in the ashes of the night
We somehow hold onto the light

The waters run red with blood
With our souls mired in the mud
The blood bruises of yesterday
Are less cruel than the words some say

It's a different sense of understanding
When we take a stand against those demanding
More than anyone reasonable and good
With six degrees separated more than they should

It's an artistic travesty
Spiraled out across life's tapestry
Of what passed in life unguarded
We find pleas for mercy disregarded

First Principles: The True Key For the Construction of Everything Doubtful In A Law Is the Intention of the Law-Makers

“The true key for the construction of everything doubtful in a law is the intention of the law-makers. This is most safely gathered from the words, but may be sought also in extraneous circumstances provided they do not contradict the express words of the law.” – Thomas Jefferson (1808)

Rough Edges

Distant Edge - Keys To My Heart
Rough Edges
by Michael Doyle

Sometimes it seems
I've lost all my dreams
At the rough edges
And window ledges

Are all I'm hanging onto
It's been so long since I've held you
Stuck working the night shift
In a world full of grift

The system works its cut
Against the survivors of the glut
It's a world of interesting company
Walk on players run the infirmary

Jacked into the system's brutality
Played out without any subtlety
We're all tied up in a massacred brand
It's propriety, you have to understand

All in all, it's a rhetorical mess
To which it seems we quietly confess
The system as played, when put to test
Is, as it seems, no better than the rest

Imagine My Surprise

At the Gate of the Divine Feminie - Spheres
Imagine My Surprise
by Michael Doyle

Imagine my surprise
At learning time is linear
The doctors opened my eyes
With a ditty about no longer being superior

Sitting there tugging at my cape
Hinting I'm no longer a masked crusader
But the prisoner of a lined gape
Mother Nature clarified I could not evade her

Time catches up with us all
Words of wisdom that I now recall
It feels only yesterday I came to understand
That I would not always be superman

Sitting here with pupils dilated
I think of the chances I hesitated
Certain there was time enough to find
And now yesterday has left me behind

Facebook has ruined high school reunions
In its incessant patter passed off as communion
Forgotten whispers from way back when
Become reminders of what might have been

Looking out these windows full of change
Somewhat mystified at how my life rearranged
Once happily caught up in arguments found compelling
Looking back, I don't find these all that appealing

Time catches up with us all
Words of wisdom that I now recall
It feels only yesterday I came to understand
That I would not always be superman

Sitting here with pupils dilated
I think of the chances that I hesitated
Certain there was time enough to find
And now yesterday has left me behind

Thrashing through life, plummeting into age
God knows I pray enough for the wisdom of a sage
Every room becomes an escape room with anxiety
And nothing is simple based on this complexity

Of thinking I might just win this game of thrones
But instead landing on feet though quite alone
I've followed the rabbit down its mystery hole
Hoping that I might yet find the meaning of my soul
