First Principles: What Is Morally Wrong Can Never Be Advantageous, Even When It Enables You To Make Some Gain You Believe To Be To Your Advantage

“What is morally wrong can never be advantageous, even when it enables you to make some gain that you believe to be to your advantage. The mere act of believing that some wrongful course of action constitutes an advantage is pernicious”. -Marcus Tullius Cicero, statesman, orator, writer (106-43 BCE)

The Unfolding Story of the First Christmas Day

Elvion - Lost Sheep In White
The Unfolding Story of the First Christmas Day
by Michael Doyle

Christmas didn't come with a pretty bow
If you didn't know this, you need to know
There was a lot of ugly in what became beautiful
The something simple transformed into the wonderful

Shepherds were tending flock in the field
When the angels announced what would yield
The coming of the Lord in that lonely manger
To walk among us as a friend, not a stranger

In a testimony filled with truest inspiration
The tending the lambs of God for the Israeli nation
The lowest of the low came to find the highest of the high
On that fateful night the angels filled the sky

Love does not discriminate for cause of social standing
Let this be our first and greatest bit of understanding
God is not a respecter of status but of pure hearts
And in His kingdom, each such heart play their parts

All peoples come together for the majesty and the glory
Here within the very first of the greatest Christmas story
Then there an angel appeared to tell his holy news
The same we listen to in filling the Christmas pews

The good news proclaimed to be spread among the least
All are and will be welcomed, come famine or great feast
We are all loved and blessed in our Father's eyes
Let this truth never be forgotten or come as surprise

In the town of Bethlehem, there laying in the manger
Came God to walk among us, no longer to be stranger
There as a multitude of angels filled that night's skies
The hosts of Heaven praised before the shepherd's eyes

Glory to God and on the highest winds be praise
Came the Word of God to live by in all of our days
Kept in the fullness of our most broken parts
To be filled with shalom enough to cure our hearts

Wholeness of peace offered for the goodness of all
It is a restoration of Eden to bridge our fall
There is a completeness by which we may best live
If if our complete surrender, our praise we give

Habits of a lifetime lived with our best intention
Gratitude and loving worship given our humble attention
Lovely and pure in our humbled but steady admiration
This will restore our hearts and the best satisfaction

Life is not about living for selfishness and ambition
And it doesn't matter about whatever our situations
It only takes overcoming fearful ways to open eyes
To the truth of that light show that filled the skies

Trust in God beings the purest of sacred imprints
To do that something that keeps us steadily intent
Following the Lord is the message we must spread
Whatever the world might say and things we dread

Living the presence of the Lord is best for us all
The worship and relationship is what we must recall
It is the love and the completeness in which we praise
That brings the joy to give pristine peace to our days

A living invitation comes with the telling of salvation
As we learn to see what might rescue every desperate nation
It's the telling of the sacred words all need to hear
That will bring the peace that surpasses all of our fear

Go then and tell it on on the tallest mountain
Go then and tell it near, far; tell it everywhere
The living waters heal flowing like a fountain
As we humbly approach and let this truth shine clear

Thought For the Day: All Information Is Imperfect. We have To Treat It With Humility

“There is no absolute knowledge. And those who claim it, whether they are scientists or dogmatists, open the door to tragedy. All information is imperfect. We have to treat it with humility.” – Jacob Bronowski (1908-1974)

Birds Aren’t Real

Birds Aren't Real
by Michael Doyle

Spoken with a sense of zeal
Is the thought, "Birds Aren't Real"
Youth joins together to upend
A disturbing sort of the worse trend

In an age of misinformation
Gen Z links arms across the nation
Engaged in a case of absurdism
With vigor and great enthusiasm

It is a parody social movement
Meant to tackle a world of rabbit holes
In this sense, it is an improvement
That might be good for their souls

Fighting lunacy with lunacy
The youth of America take this opportunity
Started by a floppy haired McIndoe on his own
Who is ready to admit that birds are not drones

Cosplaying the zeal of conspiracy theory
They process while aware of the line they walk
This is the now of getting through somehow in theory
By pretending to laugh together at their own talk

Growing up in high schools where the noxious gateway
Was and has been a diet of social media every day
Reading Reddit's viewpoints on causes of "Remote Control"
A little irreverence is after all good for the soul

Constructing a world fabricated in its constant fiction
As a way of fighting off banality in a world of friction
Concocting elaborate histories to deal with frustration
Had in dealing with a world turned mad with unnatural diction

Despite its falsity, this is a benign collaboration
Building a world of absurd charm across this nation
Engaging as its worse, those against absurdism
And who have had enough of lives lived in misinformation

Laughing at the world in all of its tainted madness
This is a way of overcoming all of the profound sadness
Like a social mirror held to America's internet age
"Birds Aren't Real" is about laughter and not rage

The Magic of Hope, Part I

Mystical Illusions Photography - Gazing On the River
The Magic of Hope, Part I
by Michael Doyle

In all of the hustled hassle
Of a snow-blanketed sense of season
Life is oft lived like an air-castle
Filled with whimsy decorated with reason

A good Christmas is worked upon
And not just a state-of-mind
Just as soon approached as gone
While one more year is left behind

Even children feel it, walking in nightmare
Too busy to take their special part
Having half-forgotten why it is to care
Absent those things best kept in the heart

Let's not forget that the universe is made of story
Certainly not only those things like atomic particles
There is is in the half missed blessing of true glory
Or at least I have read so in dusted-off articles

The magic of snow somehow twinkles in
Children begin to cozy up as the story begins
A story tells its beginning set in Nordic forest
When a young boy begins his sacred quest

Danger it seems lurks quietly everywhere
Yet crisis is adverted by just missing a bear
While times are so hard as making ends meet
Is best met with bravery and on one's feet

Not so long ago in a place not unlike this
There lived a girl, the kind you wouldn't want to miss
One day wandering in woods and under the silver moon
It wasn't long before she became as lost as her tune

Through the shadowing skies she whistled and walked
Skipping past cotton soft clouds and with giants she talked
Keeping herself as her own truest and best company
Until she found a secret village where sought sympathy

Elftown, in which lived all the most magical of elves
And who kept all of their magic bottled on top shelves
Each day was a day filled with the most wonderful happiness
Filled with their moments, blessed with purity and bliss

Believing as it is, is often as good as all of the knowing
Especially when nestled inside, while outside it is snowing
A noise is heard an undecided sort of a timid squeak
With these floorboards, it might as well have been a creak

A gentle reminder comes to foster half-forgotten belief
Speaking without words, yet somehow offering relief
There is in belief in doing, the taking of us half the way there
Until cheerful and brave, our destination draws near

Truth is there is no one so poor as those who somehow forget
The last time they've smiled and only live to recall their regret
The miserable, as always, take great pleasure in tortured company
Yet, hope is the spark to keep going on, on the vapors of empty

Two kind words are all some ever really need to wistfully hear
Like a warm memory that helps the meek to hold on and persevere
This then is the incentive to hang on the end of the rope
And start the journey to reclaim the magic of hope

Thought For the Day: Those Intoxicated By the Advance of Knowledge So Often Become the Enemies of Freedom

“Ever since the beginning of modern science, the best minds have recognized that ‘the range of acknowledged ignorance will grow with the advance of science.’ Unfortunately, the popular effect of this scientific advance has been a belief, seemingly shared by many scientists, that the range of our ignorance is steadily diminishing and that we can therefore aim at more comprehensive and deliberate control of all human activities. It is for this reason that those intoxicated by the advance of knowledge so often become the enemies of freedom.” – Friedrich August von Hayek (1899-1992)
