“There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth and pursue it steadily.” – George Washington (1795)

On Saturday, June 5, 2021, I had a heart attack. I have been in recovery and am now ready to start posting to Aloha Promises Forever. I am making a good recovery but have still yet to be referred to a treating cardiologist since the surgeries and release from the hospital. I would like to thank all the individuals who fought hard to keep me alive. When I have a more or less comprehensive list together, I will post a thank you note. The bleeding from where they went in to put in four stents and then had to go back in just as I was leaving surgery and a blood clot happened bringing me back into surgery, has stopped and that wound seems to be closing nicely. Just one more thing to the readers for the moment on this, if you are not treating your health seriously please do. I was out hiking and photographing the Indiana Dunes when this struck me without any warning really. It has not been one of my better moments. Still, I am counting the blessings of being alive and having this chance to work toward better wellness. God bless you all and I apologize for the absence to those following the blog. I’ll try my best to never do this one again. 😉
“A good moral character is the first essential in a man, and that the habits contracted at your age are generally indelible, and your conduct here may stamp your character through life. It is therefore highly important that you should endeavor not only to be learned but virtuous.” – George Washington (1790)
A Visit To An Exotic Feline Rescue
by Michael Doyle
I visited a feline rescue
With my daughters to take a view
Thoughts given to the depraved
And the gracious souls who've saved
These big cats, who were once little
Drawn towards the drama's middle
Of how humans believing themselves clever
Thought very little of how they'd ever
How is it, tell, they did not know
That big cats are in the habit in which they grow
Vanity, it seems, is engulfed in madness
Tragic as it seems, it leads to sadness
When kittens grow up no longer sweet and cute
And the egotists no longer want their brutes
Cast aside unheeded as if its their fault
And as if all reasonability has had its revolt
And my eyes, like those of millions of others
Fill with tears for our animal sisters and brothers
Who only wish that they might find a sense of love
And a place to live with stars hanging above
As they might have if only left in the wild
Instead of abused and wantonly defiled
Still there are those who do lovingly care for them
And that, if nothing else, gives me hope again

“If you break your neck, if you have nothing to eat, if your house is on fire, then you’ve got a problem. Everything else is an inconvenience. Life is inconvenient. Life is lumpy. A lump in the oatmeal, a lump in the throat, and a lump in the breast are not the same kind of lump. One needs to learn the difference.” -Robert Fulghum, author (b. 4 Jun 1937)
“I often note with equal pleasure that God gave this one connected country to one united people — a people descended from the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in manners and customs, who by their joint counsels, arms, and efforts, fighting side by side through a long bloody war, have nobly established general liberty and independence.” – John Jay, Federalist No. 2, 1787
Once There Was A Beginning
by Michael Doyle
Once there was a beginning
Where two could end up winning
A smile shared on a sunny day
You really shook my blues away
Your two lips were surely meant for kissing
And now here we are caught in reminiscing
Thinking on all the countless days gone by
Time that has elapsed since we first said hi
We don't question the happiness of today
Some things, we know, tides won't wash away
Where it is that love meets and simmers mellow
Like a summer day spent in a willow's shadow
