Thought For the Day: Those Who Can Make You Believe In Absurdities Can Make You Commit Atrocities

First Principles: No Man Is Allowed To Be A Judge In His Own Cause, Because His Interest Would Certainly Bias His Judgment, and, Not Improbably, Corrupt His Integrity

“No man is allowed to be a judge in his own cause, because his interest would certainly bias his judgment, and, not improbably, corrupt his integrity.” – James Madison (1787)

Thought For the Day: Socialists Desire To Practice Legal Plunder, Not Illegal Plunder. Socialists…Desire to Make the Law Their Own Weapon

“Socialists desire to practice legal plunder, not illegal plunder. Socialists, like all other monopolists, desire to make the law their own weapon. And when once the law is on the side of socialism, how can it be used against socialism? For when plunder is abetted by the law, it does not fear your courts, your gendarmes, and your prisons. Rather, it may call upon them for help.” – Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850)

First Principles: Without Freedom of Thought There Can Be No Such Thing As Wisdom; and No Such Thing As Public Liberty, Without Freedom of Speech

“Without Freedom of Thought there can be no such Thing as Wisdom; and no such Thing as Public Liberty, without Freedom of Speech.” – Benjamin Franklin (1722)

I’ll Always Take Your Call

Tsunami - Watching You
I'll Always Take Your Call
by Michael Doyle

Ripped apart deep inside my DNA
Finding the scary part is the last bite
When suddenly, I run short of what to say
And my wildest dreams hold me through the night

Somewhere in the geometry of the abstract
I find myself reeling seconds at a time in facts
Stuck there remembering to breath out to breath in
Hoping that I remember to keep doing this again

There are no discernible boundaries in my song
Only the hope that I prevail and finish strong
Different tempos wrapped in their plasticity
I bridge into the infinite of my elasticity

In a zig zag beeline observed with conviction
My follow through chases spinning in direction
Shadows creeping in with the slight condescension
These leave me apprehensive but never lacking conviction

I see a desperate face imploring silently at me
I want to offer hope against your dark tendency
Dancing close to society's despair, refusing to drown
I'll never be king but I don't wear a jester's crown

Relieved in the bitter respite, dreading its return
These are lives lessons we truly must live and learn
Shrieked out in terror as the nighttime melts away
Surviving in the silver lining moments of each day

There's a hollow comfort in superficiality
Where I yet see beyond the edges of the rarity
Urging you not to jump and offering to catch your fall
Waiting out the worse of it, I'll always take your call

Holding on as I do without letting go ever
Knowing in the heat of it that I'm often less than clever
My love runs deep for you in your unruly mind
Placing your hands in mine, I'll never leave you behind

Thought For the Day: The Answer Is…To Teach Ourselves To Comprehend Each Person, Not As A Symbol of A Group, But As A Unique and Special Individual Within A Common Context of Shared Humanity

“The answer is to go deeper than race, deeper than wealth, deeper than ethnic identity, deeper than gender. To teach ourselves to comprehend each person, not as a symbol of a group, but as a unique and special individual within a common context of shared humanity. To go to that fundamental place where we are all simply mortal creatures, seeking to create order, beauty, family, and connection to the world that—on its own—seems to bend too often towards randomness and entropy.” – Wyatt Tee Walker, American civil rights movement legend; Executive Director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in the critical years of 1960-1964 and a co-founder of the Congress of Racial Equality,

First Principles: Where An Excess of Power Prevails, Property of No Sort Is Duly Respected

“Where an excess of power prevails, property of no sort is duly respected. No man is safe in his opinions, his person, his faculties, or his possessions.” – James Madison (1792)

In the Elegance of You

What are you saying again my dear friend?
In the Elegance of You
by Michael Doyle

Whether dressed in red or blue
The lady I wish to dance with is you
Not just for today or a few more tomorrows
But in always in all days in joy and in sorrow

Holding you close to my heart is your best place
My cheek to yours, gently brushing your face
And still all the more closer until I know and feel
Our hearts beat fast as if bound together in steel

From the first song until evening's final end
You are my woman, my love, and my best friend
I whisper this gently, softly into your waiting ear
That I will always hold you close, you need never fear

Someone once said something about three times a lady
And I guess that about covers it all, except for maybe
That you are my greatest confidant with words we share
Wrapped up in rainbows, waterfalls and thoughts of care

When I am away taking care of things that I must do
Please know that you are in my heart as I think of you
Waiting until that moment that I can hold you once again
For you are my woman, my love and always my best friend

Thought For the Day: Make Mankind Wise and By That Very Operation You Make Them Free

“Make men wise, and by that very operation you make them free. Civil liberty follows as a consequence of this; no usurped power can stand against the artillery of opinion.” – William Godwin (1756-1836)

First Principles: The Judicial Branch May Truly Be Said To Have Neither Force Nor Will, But Merely Judgment and Must Ultimately Depend On the Aid of the Executive Arm Even For the Efficacy of Its Judgments

“[The judicial branch] may truly be said to have neither FORCE nor WILL, but merely judgment; and must ultimately depend upon the aid of the executive arm even for the efficacy of its judgments.” – Alexander Hamilton (1788)
