Planted Seed of Fear

Poem 4 in a series retelling a classic werewolf tale:

Fear, She's the Mother of Violence - Darkside

Planted Seed of Fear
by Michael Doyle

Plant the seed
The seed of fear
As the blood moon rises
Evil comes in its disguises

The village wills to celebrate
While the hunter seeks to invigorate
Danced in its moonlit tapestry
Fools will have their pageantry

But the true hunter knows
What lurks within the shadows
Dance, dance into the night
The things seen are not a trick of the light

The warrior takes his guarded stand
Unwilling to be tricked by sleight of hand
Drink dances around and by the firelight
Evil lurks in its second sight

Blood Moon Rising

Poem 3 in a continuing series of retelling of a classic werewolf tale:

A Voyage To Africa - Familiar Strangers

Blood Moon Rising
by Michael Doyle

Torchlight flows and leads the way
As the full moon comes to claim the day
Are you braver than me, my heart asks
As a man among men, I fulfill my task

Life asked me to be a hero when I was unready
But, still I did my best to keep my nerves steady
Fortifying courage with that strong drink
That allowed me to move but not to think

Until one by one, I learned my errors
Shock proofed but consumed with terror
I do my best to be manly and good
Though such things are little understood

Moments take us as these do and find
All of our beliefs in the things that bind
Credit is given where credit is do
But the distinction of true courage is given to few

With the rising of the full blood moon
The wolf will come hunting for us soon
I don't wish to paint this page with gloom
But with it comes the sealing of our doom

Full Asking Price

Poem 2 in a series retelling a classic werewolf tale:

Stranger Things Are Happening - Checked By Water

Full Asking Price
by Michael Doyle

I know so little of what to believe
As I sit here and quietly grieve
We talk of counted blessings
But most of these only leave us guessing

Lives lived in their futility
Struck deep within our humanity
A soul chooses to die rather than go on
There in all those tales of once upon

Unspeakable are the terms of our undoing
Where the ghost of night meets the maiden's wooing
Love cuts deep when know we have to let it go
Laments the still voices from within the shadow

There in the hunting of things we fear
Is the small chance that hope might reappear
True love will give its all in its sacrifice
This then is truth's full asking price

Comfort is offered in the sheltering arms of love
Kept secrets only whispered to God above
Our sorrows sopped in our misery's daily bread
Until that final day that we all know is coming and dread

Don’t Talk To Strangers

First in a series of poems based on a retelling of the classic werewolf story, or is it…

Winter at Bath - Feeling Like A Stranger In A Manger

Don't Talk To Strangers
by Michael Doyle

Mama said don't talk to strangers
You're never out of danger
When you live on the edge of darkness

But, there is that something charming
That is nearly always too disarming
In the eyes of the most dangerous strangers

Like a nearly, neatly sprung trap
That lays out like its own innocuous map
Providing directions we never heed

Blood bleeds its own measure of purity
Half hidden as it is in uncertainty
Calling to us to break the meaningless rules

Proven as it is in the running away
To that some other place where we make our own day
This is the proof of our hearts

The wolf comes to call
As the night silently starts to fall
Death, it seems, comes for us all

Thought For the Day: We The People Are the Rightful Masters of Both Congress and the Courts, Not To Overthrow the Constitution But To Overthrow the Men Who Pervert the Constitution

First Principles: Honor, Justice and Humanity Forbid Us Tamely to Surrender That Freedom Which We Received From Our Gallant Ancestors

“Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them.” – Thomas Jefferson (1775)

From Darkness To Light

Spent an interesting day learning, seeking and then seeing and then simply being … Or maybe, it was more like several hours in 90+ degrees photographing left me more just taking it all in while conveniently clicking to take photos of what I was seeing. 🙂

Kokomo Day Trip II 07022020

From Darkness To Light
by Michael Doyle

There I was with all of my luck
Watching quietly as a mother duck
Taught her ducklings how to swim
Catching myself thinking back to when

I began to awake with shrug and a shake
Thinking back on all that it takes
And knowing that my cosmos is within
Or at least part of it comes with Zen

It seems enough to be enough
And we're all made out of star stuff
As a way of God and cosmos to know
To know their reflections in what we show

So much that seems so much is simply unreal
Mirrored perceptions and not so much the deal
Just baggage that we carry on as if we need
When really what we need is to be simply freed

In my search for wiser things, I have found
Much of the search is a pointless search around
On that realization, I had learned to swim
And now as I watch the ducklings I remember when

There in that wholeness is the authenticity
That is exquisite and untarnished in it simplicity
From my too often darkness, I seek for light
Putting aside best as I can my ignorance dark as night

Tangled as I was in an incessant web of blues
There have been times that I've blown my fuse
I've begun as it is to gain the knowledge of seeing
And becoming more and more, a human simply being

Being that which takes me from death to immortality
Not so much a need for the eternal but the eventuality
Of reuniting the greater consciousness that is as one
Permanently awaken from the forgetfulness I am done

In the darkness, I seek only to share my part of light
That our world, as it is, may yet be more perfected and right
I now come to dedicate myself to live in this freedom
My soul belongs less to me than simply part of kingdom

I am now given less to destination than to the journey
Discovering the truth that is remembered as destiny
Opening doors await the finding of life's best keys
Away from the darkness awoken to the truth set free

Looking at the young ducklings out on the park pond
I see that they too are something there and yet beyond
As they scurry onto the waiting crevices in the rocks
Having doors themselves to open as they pick at the locks

Thought For the Day: Those Who Cannot Remember the Past Are Condemned To Repeat It

“Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana in The Life of Reason
