Halloween Poem #10:
Resurrection (The Monster's Lament) by Michael Romani I cannot speak in denial Though my very soul is on trial Looking back on all of my days Sometimes unspeakable in my ways There are so many things I would forget Too many things I fully regret Cruel at times without meaning Finding myself frail as a human being I have walked through Hell Dwelling on every overlooked detail Casting about in my harshness Determined to find my way out of the darkness These things that I have done The paths down that I've begun Are sometimes completely broken It's deplorable, the rage I've spoken You say that my scars are not me Somehow you see your way through to my beauty And for this, I will always love you Praying that I might yet start anew Every one of us has the Devil inside For me too often, it's my wall of pride Grounded in the man I believed I was Dutiful and honor bound just because It was as I was led to believe Now as time turns, I do conceive That things might be ever differently Approaching life resurrected imperfectly For too long, wandering so very lost At every turn, I have paid the cost But, with your love, I have found my home Never more to wander afraid and alone (c) October 10, 2019 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved

Halloween Poem #9:
A Keening of Cause by Michael Romani Fallen into second sight's vision I find myself lost in indecision There inside that stinging fog Sawn in half like a totem's log It's too late for what will come To all and not just for some Eyes centered until as one Played out in tattoo on the drum Darkness is coming to us all Do you hear it and its call Darkness will form its own wall Before Lucifer shines before us all Our dark history is mired in the mud A trick of time and paid full in blood Pale skinned and adorned with raven hair A livid sense of danger in the night's air Some might say boldly it is as it is willed As goosebumps chill throughout the thrilled We sense our impending doom quite pleasantly For it's the gateway unto all of eternity A circumstance of ritual and unpleasant mystery Stripped harshly and scarred in our history Burned to death for the sake of legacy Lamentations sing our way to immortality (c) October 9, 2019 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved

“The only ground of hope for the continuance of our free institutions is in the proper moral and religious training of the children, that they may be prepared to discharge aright the duties of men and citizens.” – Zachary Taylor

Continuing on my semi-gothic mood, Halloween Poem #8:
A Bleakness of Breath by Michael Romani In a cemetery of bleakness Down from the Devil's house In a coldness that speaks of this There is a tremble as quiet as a mouse A child there is laid to rest Younger than should be buried Laid within as the earth's new guest Through troubles she should not have carried A beloved daughter has taken her last breath In doing so, she is delivered unto death While looking on is Lilith's apparition Staring into the abyss with morbid anticipation Alone, Lilith walks among the dead A ghastly vision stuck inside my head Her venom dripping without concern Her spite of man, one she had to learn Sing a song of sixpence, as the dead begin to crawl Hurry inside child, as the black raven caws God to sinners vehemently reconciled As those who struggle feel lost and defiled Evil there in it brushed back of good Drawing nearer in pretense as it must and should Until at last, she reaches striking distance Having prevailed against all resistance And death, as sweet as it is, comes serene As just another passage of our mortal beings Wearing the disguise of a much needed friend Death is death at last breath drawn at the end (c) October 8, 2019 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved
