Thought For the Day: Keep Your Dreams Alive Through Faith, Hard Work and Determination

“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.” – Gail Devers

First Principles: We Must Take Care To Elevate Our Children’s Minds, Courage and Souls Encouraging Them To Excel In Every Capacity, Faculty and Virtue

“It should be your care, therefore, and mine, to elevate the minds of our children and exalt their courage; to accelerate and animate their industry and activity; to excite in them an habitual contempt of meanness, abhorrence of injustice and inhumanity, and an ambition to excel in every capacity, faculty, and virtue.” – John Adams (1756)

Thought For the Day: No One Appreciates the Value of Constructive Criticism Better Than the One Giving It

Nestled

History is to learn from.  Not to be dwelt on.  But to take the lessons learned into today so that we might build a better tomorrow.

Celebration Park - A Mother's Love Embraces the Past and the Future iII

Nestled
by Michael Romani

Nestled behind an old chapel
Rests with the bite of an apple
The storied fables of Tidewater gentry
Intermixed with familial history

With this is found reference to a legacy
That seems to some to center on brutality
But the moonlight and magnolias were contrary
But just as true as the truths about slavery

Perhaps as always there are shades of truth
These both are remembered and mistaken in youth
Some there are that engender only benighted nobility
And some that whisper only of false chivalry

But there are other parts of Southern heritage
That formed our country and provided gentile edge
A look at history tells of men forced to live two sides
Compromising with that which no compromise was had with pride

The presence of paradox blinds our vision
With banners on both sides screaming for revision
Of how in this land born while proclaiming freedom
Somehow slipped down the slopes of the Antebellum

First Principles: It Is When the People Forget God That Tyrants Forge Their Chains

“Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom. No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue; and by a frequent recurrence to fundamental principles.” – Patrick Henry

Retribution For Frailty

Sadists like to kick people when they’re down.   Turn to multiple forums from Facebook to otherwise and you see people constantly tearing at each other and doing this for the good of the other.  Interesting how we convince ourselves of this, isn’t it?

Retribution For Frailty
by Michael Romani

In retribution for her frailty
She strikes out with the utmost cruelty
Believing herself to be doing good
As if ritualized punishment ever could

Although torture might make one cave
It's doubtful it will ever save
There can be no comfort in that community
Founded as it is on brutality

While there is power in knowing who has bled
It's never quite as power as it is said
Vulnerability betrayed by savagery's slide
Makes the sting of a verbal whip a remover of pride

It's for their own good, she speaks as she lies
Though the truth of the opposite is seen with all eyes
The damage done permeates its afflicting pain
Revealing any pretense at piety as purely vain

Repressed desires becomes the humiliation
Unfit in pain festering into desperation
It become a liberation of vengeance pretending to care
She is draped in the corruption as it finishes its tear

It has become a menace, quietly terrifying
For all of those suffering the unsatisfying
Broken before in a life one cannot refuse
And one dare not even whisper at the abuse

Sunrise Calling

This planet of ours exists in just the right pocket for the life giving waters to be present in all of its necessary forms.  Odd how some don’t see the miracle in that…

Sunrise Temple

Sunrise Calling
by Michael Romani

Slippery as a sunrise calling
Frozen sudden in a night time's falling
Drips into drops like miracles known
Sometimes within each day shown

Climbing ice face is climbing water
And then there's that something odder
That each year's structure changes
As life as we know it rearranges

The ascent is unique as the new day's morrow
With little to tell what will be tomorrow
Melting into collapse with the tiniest heat
Shape shifting constantly and then repeat

We live and love in this paradise of water
Like the newborn children of the ocean's daughter
Each drop strained from steam to clearest stream
We drink in the divinity of this world's dream
