Thought For the Day: Becoming Present Means Accepting Risk of Absence

“Of course I’ll hurt you. Of course you’ll hurt me. Of course we will hurt each other. But this is the very condition of existence. To become spring, means accepting the risk of winter. To become presence, means accepting the risk of absence.”  – Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Manon, Ballerina

Such is the way of love.  This is especially true of long distance love.  Even nearby, to bring love of someone into your life is an assumption of an almost certain risk.  That at some point, you will experience that absence that is unavoidable – at least at times.

Am I alone at not being a fan of this knowledge?
