I never thought I would find a day that I would agree with much that Howard Zinn had to say. Today I do just that. There is no flag large enough to cover up the shame of killing innocent people. That Is just disgraceful and out of bounds.
Guys like me, I suppose that we are legitimate targets. I signed up to serve my country. But to kill thousands of innocent people to make a statement. Who does that? Madmen, sociopaths, the unjust who prefer to be murderous thugs… but not.. no never heroes. (How about that a triple negative… does that negate the double negative rule?)
We need to learn how to live together, people. It is truly my hope that one day people like me will go the way of the dinosaur. It will be the final and real and lasting victory when no one has a need to say, “over my dead body” and goes to war to fight to protect his or her land and people and especially those he or she loves more than life.
Early morning, Tuesday, September 11, 2001, a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks took place at the hands of Al-Qaeda. These attacks killed 2,996 people, injured over 6,000, and caused at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage. Worse it caused some major damage to the psyche of America. We have bounced back considerably. We have a long way to go toward full recovery. I do believe we’ll get there. We are Americans a land that as deep as some divisions run, our unity and resolve are singularly stronger than any obstacles. We’ll make our comeback together as we stand united against the darkness that is terrorism.
Friday, September 14, 2001 marked the first National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. A proclamation was made to have a national day of remembrance and mourning. Today is that day.
