With a lift of my glass, sometimes sipped sometimes guzzled
I give you a look that tells you that I’m quietly puzzled
The proposition is that it’s from the puzzles of the past
That we find the answers that raise our future’s mast
Sailing into that stellar sea of life and love and discovery
And that by looking past the shadow, we will find you and me
There on the pages of all of those who have come before
We agree that we will find the key to open up this door
We look down, you from your tower and me from my ridge
And find that it is together that we might best cross this bridge
Quick to draw from our different senses of perspective
We find that our pasts require us to be openly reflective
I chuckle as you become annoyed that I have opened the door
You weren’t looking for a gentleman, but I am, I quietly assure
