Short Form Poetry – Tercou – Big And Vicious

Tonight’s workshop:

What is a Tercou

• 8 line poem of 3 stanzas.
• First 2 stanzas are tercets
• Third stanza is a couplet
• Syllable count is 5/4/5, 5/4/5, 8/6
• Rhyme scheme aba aba aa

After some discussion, it was agreed that I would attempt to write a Tercou on Hurricane Florence.

Big and Vicious

Creeps on the coast
As the rain pours

Large scale disaster
Fearing at most
What comes after

Fearing we will not all survive
We hope to stay alive
