Boy Genius

Inspired by and dedicated to the vexatious life of Erik Satie.

West of the Rain - Composition In My Mind

Boy Genius
by Michael Romani

Reeling out of control
Unable to console
The boy genius fights
Taking confront in his nights

Sideways bit of swagger
Sliced into like a dagger
Shamelessly ballistic
Far too antagonistic

Wordlessly described
Often circumscribed
More ego than we know
Force taken blow by blow

Longing for glory
But failing at the story
Self superior in his thinking
Caught up in his drinking

Reeling out of control
Unable to console
The boy genius fights
Taking comfort in his night

Disintegrating humanity
Lost within in his vanity
Collapsing in his sanity
He falters in his dignity

Approaching steps toward fame
Harrowed into his shame
Lonely dreams coming true
Melt into the serenity renewed

Shown love and empathy
He returns this with cruelty
Lost capacity for connection
He's never cared for correction

Reeling out of control
Unable to console
The boy genius fights
Taking comfort in his nights
