In these dark times when it is so hard to be optimistic, can anyone be blamed for having nightmares? But what then are these?
The Dreamwork of Nightmares
by Michael Doyle
Even still as we grow and mature
We find a dark side in our human nature
Regardless of our striving and cares
The dream self knows its nightmares
This dream self is sometimes our true selves
Despite our bodily defects or books on shelves
All of these things we suffer and then endure
Both gods and demons cause us to be impure
There is significance to our bad dreams
Played out in full color and monochromatic scenes
Do we find in our warped sense of responsibility
That we seemingly set our own contextuality
As wish fulfillment for what we believe we desire
These are the alarms that set our souls on fire
So much comes to us though almost thoughtlessly
Unpacked into its measure triggering us needlessly
Our naked psyches in all of their division
Know their own self justified moments of derision
So much is layered as if in misty stages
As though perhaps these are ghost written pages
Multiplicity is condensed as if into one
Either completing us or making us come undone
All of our wishes are masterpieces of contortion
Suitable at best as graceless moments of distortion
Each of us, as so it seems, have a dark side
Unwanted desires that we hide behind our pride
The curtain blows in its irony of stark suppression
There in the caverns of our blackened depression
A flood erupts from our sternest repression
Coming across in levels of fuzzy impression
Rebounding into our nightmares of closed reality
Lived out in the scripts of our actuality
Rehearsing our darkest fears greeted at arrival
We will, at last, find our way into our survival
The mind and brain are again cleared; made clean
Sanitized as it were and is even in our worse dreams
