What makes a poet?
The Having Something To Say by Michael Doyle Sitting here in the middle of a think Mentally stumbling slipping toward brink Wondering what it is that makes a poet Certainly certain that I don't know it I think it's the having of something to say For some reason that seems very right today It's more than finding two words that rhyme That strikes me as some sort of artistic crime Then I hear another bad poem drone on and on Finding myself wishing I was already gone Suddenly realizing there's something to prose And blank verse is like that another named rose Perhaps better as an essay if properly constructed But grammar is more often than not a bit destructed As so many prefer to rant and rave bravely aloud It strikes me as a wonder how it makes them proud Bragging on writing things that come across lewd I'd say write what you know but that seems rude So I quietly listen and pretend it's worth praising As I hope to myself that no one sees my eyebrows raising (c) June 6, 2020 Michael Doyle All Rights Reserved
