Land Hold
by Michael Doyle
The land holds its history
The heart has its mystery
Held generations in a family
It's the passing of love steadily
From generation to generation
The way of society's inclination
As we simply pass it on
Resisting that it ever be torn
But kept instead like a garment worn
To keep our souls from being forlorn
Unchanged as in perhaps forever
Until someone lawyers up thinking self clever
To tear away this or that part
Most of us would just as soon sever our hearts
We hold on to our posterity
Thinking less about prosperity
Than to leave a stake-hold
On which the future will unfold
As family and land know continuation
On and on for future generations
We do this with degrees of affection
Showing our love kept in its perfection
Land and heart know their legacy
Held together as if something legendary
