A Time For Figs

Word Prompt: Figs

A Time of Figs
by Michael Doyle

I didn't have grapes but I had wine,
As I set out in the world to make it mine.
I couldn't tell a joke, however funny.
Life has turned out to be less about money.

My thoughts blossomed into fruit,
Given enough time, they took root.
Roots enough to feel rock-n-roll,
It's a good time down in my soul.

In a time of flying pigs,
I learned to love sweet figs.
Immersed in the poetry,
I turned it all to music, literally.

I never realized which one was Pink,
But those lines gave me space to think.
All those crazy dreams about going far,
As long as I could play this guitar.

If you train up a fig tree in how it should go,
You'll have a fig for happiness and one for woe.
If you train your fingers to play across frets,
Maybe you'll play yourself a full set.

In a time of flying pigs,
I learned to love sweet figs.
Immersed in the poetry,
I turned it all to music, literally.
