Eyes On Tomorrow

Eyes On Tomorrow
by Michael Doyle

He just needs a little space
And a thimble full of grace.
After all the things seen;
After all, he's just a human being.

Too many wannabes talk story.
That's the trouble of stolen glory.
Too many brothers fallen into black
And no amount of prayers bring them back.

Waking up from a stone-cold nightmare,
Shaking to the bone from the taken dare.
Some folks create fears to keep awake,
But the real monsters come from an impossible shake.

There's a lot of talk out there
And some of it is close to true.
Some of it is smack based on fear,
But all of it has its own kind of skew.

It's hard to open up and be vulnerable.
Maybe it's a lot to handle and be capable.
But only by doing this can we exist.
Until then, we do our best to persist.

Faced with living shades of adversity,
He so often chooses his flight over fight.
He shields vulnerability from lack of certainty
As he tries to shield her sight.

It's a feeling of too much to see.
He doesn't want her to know what he has seen.
The tears that come despite being strong
And knowing her love is the only space where he belongs.

Staying up late at night thinking about yesterday,
He hopes to get a grip before chasing her away.
Sleepiness is the least of his dark sorrow.
He's just throwing hands at tomorrow.

It's who is in the house that makes it home
And with your kind of love, I'm never alone.
I need you to know me always and completely.
Are you ready to walk with me this deeply?
