Real Deal

Real Deal
by Michael Doyle

All the lies we believed in
Like by fighting, we'd find peace again.
Giving peace a chance... through war?
Maybe we should have thought more.

But the fact is and will remain,
That some believe getting along is in vain.
There'll be no saving tomorrow from yesterday
If such people always hold sway.

Such people are the worst monsters that I know.
They even wear masks to put on their show.
I want there to come that "some sunny day",
When people like me aren't needed to defend our way.

The way of love and peace heeded,
And dinosaurs like me are no longer needed.
When all come together in a council of heart.
But it will take that cruel choosing to depart.

Gunfight? Knife fight? Not every night..
This can't be the path to getting it right.
And as I look on the weary world around me,
I yearn for real peace as being our possibility.

Bullets fly, and mothers cry,
Uncertain as to why their children have to die.
Fighters like me hold out for something more.
We may be good at it, but we need more than war.

The only constants are death and change.
The battles around us rage and names rearrange.
But if a bit of difference can be seen,
It's in the hurt felt by every human being.
