First Principles: God Who Gave Us Life Gave Us Liberty

“God who gave us life gave us Liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.” -Thomas Jefferson (1774)

Thought For the Day: The Court’s ‘Cruelty’ Was In Supporting Congress’s Core Constitutional Power of the Purse

“The court’s ‘cruelty’ was in supporting Congress’s core constitutional power of the purse. Schumer’s disappointment in having to address and vote on the forgiveness of hundreds of billions of dollars in loans speaks volumes about the collapse of our constitutional values.” – Jonathan Turley

First Principles: The Name of American, Which Belongs To You In Your National Capacity, Must Always Exalt the Just Pride of Patriotism

“The name of American, which belongs to you in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of patriotism more than any appellation derived from local discriminations.” – George Washington, Farewell Address

Keeping Faith Through Storms

Crossing Currents 2021 - Storm Rolls Onto the Atoll
Keeping Faith Through Storms
by Michael Doyle

Walking righteous amidst life's corruption
The faithful holds true without disruption
Like Noah and his ark saving our humanity
The chaos of new frontiers heals with peace, not vanity

Too often, we live in coffins of our own making
While life demands we free ourselves from hearts breaking
Moments of our own storms that need a treasure chest
To bring us through, buoyantly to the other side, and rest

Keeping our heads above the waters along the way
Unfolding the promises of our coming new day
There are times dominated by our flowing tears
As we find our way into the new frontier

We move past the long-ago pains of condemnation
To find the reasons for faith and of dedication
Grumblers and fault-finders follow their desires
To divide we who seek God's love as something higher

Better ways that lead us to our lasting good
And must be followed as best as understood
Always keeping our lives founded on the right
As God patiently keeps us led by His shining light

When the rains are coming, we must reasonably prepare
Especially in the times for which we've nothing to compare
Building our peace within even those times of drought
So that in the times of storm, we will have our out

God's reasoning can be found in the deluge of rain
And our efforts turn out to have not been in vain
The unlikely are often the answers truly needed
When the Lord's word is finally heard and heeded

The Apostle Paul was a murderer in the days before
The Lord chose to use him for His something more
God needs the people chosen for their great availability
Trusted to live up then to their greatest capability

The ark had no helm or way for Noah to steer
But a window and God's will by which he could persevere
The challenges faced from the depths of the inside
Which are greater than those confronted on the outside

The woodpeckers of our lives half written pages
Need to be isolated and questioned from within their cages
We must travel life at God's known and chosen speed
In the end, we know that speed is indeed what we need

God makes us as he does for who we should be
He has seen ahead to our greatest opportunity
We must keep the faith in our darkest night
Believing in the Lord will get us through every fight

Keeping our calm in the storms that pass through here
We are kept in the promises that surely persevere
In these times of trouble, we need to learn to be still
As we watch and see the Lord's will come to prevail

In this age of information, we need more the interpretation
And the quietude that finds our answers in inspiration
As we faithfully wait for the passing storms to come to end
Knowing to trust our future at the hands of our great Friend

Step-by-step, God is with up always and completely
And God remembers us, much like Noah, always deeply
His eyes are on the sparrow making feathers visible
And the truth of promises revealed from the invisible

These elevate us to the top of our life's Mount Ararat
It does not matter the how or why of where we are at
There are two worlds; one spiritual and one physical
These have come together, clashing in the age of digital

Keeping our faith through all the troubles spoken
Gets us through unblemished and unbroken
Coming up through the storms that bring us down
If, through prayerful faith, we know we will not drown

First Principles: This Constitution Is the Most Free One, and By Far the Best, Now Existing On the Earth

“…that the King with and by the authority of parliament, is able to make laws and statutes of sufficient force and validity to limit and bind the crown, and the descent, limitation, inheritance and government thereof” is founded on the principles of liberty and the British constitution: And he that would palm the doctrine of unlimited passive obedience and non-resistance upon mankind, and thereby or by any other means serve the cause of the Pretender, is not only a fool and a knave, but a rebel against common sense, as well as the laws of God, of Nature, and his Country…These are their bounds, which by God and nature are fixed, hitherto have they a right to come, and no further…The sum of my argument is, That civil government is of God…That this constitution is the most free one, and by far the best, now existing on earth: That by this constitution, every man in the dominion is a free man: That no parts of his Majesty’s dominions can be taxed without their consent: That every part has a right to be represented in the supreme or some subordinate legislature…” – James Otis, Rights of British Colonies Asserted and Proved, pamphlet, 1763.

Thought For Another Day: We Must Dissent From the Fear, the Hatred, and the Mistrust

“We must dissent from the fear, the hatred, and the mistrust. We must dissent from a nation that buried its head in the sand waiting in vain for the needs of its poor, its elderly, and its sick to disappear and just blow away. We must dissent from a government that has left its young without jobs, education, or hope. We must dissent from the poverty of vision and timeless absence of moral leadership. We must dissent, because America can do better, because America has no choice but to do better.” -Thurgood Marshall, US Supreme Court Justice (2 Jul 1908-1993)

Bitter Truth Empty

A Ruined Halloween at Kashmir - Bone Jam With the Gratefully Dead
Bitter Truth Empty
by Michael Doyle

I come from the tribe of the dead soul
Spirits lifted in the game of rock-n-roll
There is living yet to be done
In the name of the father and the son

And yet, in the mirrored reflection
A sprawl spins in another direction
I can't seem to find any sense of conviction
Beyond your living this life's eviction

When you look into my lurid eyes
What you see there...is it really a surprise
I've never had the sense to lay down and die
As long as tomorrow shines with a new sky

You hit me hard with your troubled mystery
Telling me that all is the more of history
While you call out your truth of nothing
Earnestly believing it's the greatest something

The bitter truth is that your life is empty
Like a vacuum of your ego that simply
Is worse than a dead soul in its meaning
I wonder when you gave up as a human being

The truth is that you've nothing left to say
What you pass off as music is urban decay
Reverberations left over from a creative force
That you vaguely echo without a single remorse

It must be terrible to know you're stuck in banality
Without a single shred that passes for worthy originality
This man from the dead soul tribe watches you dribble on
As your essence shrivels away until it's completely gone

First Principles: You Must First Enable the Government To Control the Governed; and In the Next Place, Oblige It To Control Itself

“In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place, oblige it to control itself.” – James Madison (1788)

Giving Up On Being Superman

The Far Away 2021 - If You Thiink I Float and I Think I float...Is This How Superman Started Off?
Giving Up On Being Superman
by Michael Doyle

Those of us who wished to be a superman
Have mostly ended up seeming like Peter Pan
There comes a time when it becomes best
To put such delusions to their rest

Having hit the wall without a sip from the cup
It might well tell us that the time is up
And despite all the comic book sense of inspiration
Nothing has come from our ceaseless dedication

No CGI can make us the least like Superman
Perhaps it is time for satisfaction as an ordinary man
And that, after all, is no reason to be at all sad
At least we can put away the sore muscles we've had

Pulling the thunderbolts down from the skies
Does not make us into any more nobler of guys
And the best strength comes from strength of heart
Listening with compassion is really the best start

It may not be near as legendary in style
But it suits well to our ladies in their smiles
That last farther than the longest miles
This is surer to make and keep love for a longer while
